Privacy Policy

What Celestial Somm handles, what stays in your browser, and what happens when you show us a wine.

Effective August 23, 2026

The short version

Celestial Somm uses information to answer your wine questions, remember wines you choose to save, send communications you request, improve the product, and understand broader wine-discovery patterns.

We do not sell named individual drinking profiles. Producers cannot pay to change what Celestial Somm recommends.

Information you provide

Camera photos

Camera photos are compressed in your browser and sent for analysis so Celestial Somm can identify and evaluate the wine. Celestial Somm does not intentionally retain Camera photos with your saved recommendations after that analysis.

Service providers involved in processing the request may temporarily process the image under their own service terms and data-handling practices.

Community radar submissions are different. If you intentionally upload a photo through “Put a bottle on our radar,” that photo may be retained with the submission for editorial, research, and product review.

Information stored in your browser

Celestial Somm currently uses browser storage rather than a traditional user account for several features. This may include:

Your saved-wine email address is not intentionally stored in browser storage. Clearing Celestial Somm site data in your browser will remove browser-local information from that browser.

Interaction and product data

When you use Celestial Somm, we may create request identifiers and record information such as the wine requested, context you supplied, recommendation results, comparisons, saves, choices, feedback, timestamps, and technical success or error information.

We use a pseudonymous browser identifier to connect related interactions. It is not presented as an anonymous identifier because repeated activity from the same browser can be linked together.

How we use information

Celestial Somm may create, publish, license, or commercialize aggregated or de-identified market insights. Those insights are intended to describe patterns across people or interactions, not to sell a named person's drinking profile.

Service providers

We use service providers to operate Celestial Somm. Current services include Cloudflare for hosting and server functions, OpenAI for Camera analysis, Airtable for operational records, Resend for transactional email, and a newsletter provider for The Pour.

These providers process information on our behalf or as necessary to provide their services. We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights or safety, investigate abuse, or maintain the security of the service.

Recommendation independence

Personal information does not buy influence over recommendations. Celestial Somm does not allow producers, importers, retailers, or other commercial partners to pay to change the ranking or recommendation a user receives.

If paid placements, affiliate relationships, sponsorships, or other commercial relationships are introduced in the future, they will be identified separately from independent recommendation logic.

Retention

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described here, including operating and improving Celestial Somm, providing requested communications, maintaining security, resolving disputes, and meeting legal obligations.

Your choices

Because some records are pseudonymous rather than account-based, we may need information from you to locate the relevant record, and in some cases we may not be able to reliably connect a pseudonymous record to a specific person.

Age

Celestial Somm is intended for adults age 21 and older in the United States. We do not knowingly design the service for children.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as Celestial Somm changes. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date and, when appropriate, providing additional notice.

For privacy questions or requests, use the Contact form and identify the request as a privacy request.
