From the
Cellar

Ask anyone in wine about the bottle that changed their life. It’s rarely the safest commercial choice. This cellar is for the producers who made the wine they believed in anyway, and for the people who’ve been waiting to find it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Celestial Somm?

Celestial Somm is a wine discovery platform created by Erin Ortiz. It combines editorial curation, astrology, and tools like the Camera to help people find bottles and producers they might otherwise miss.

Who is behind Celestial Somm?

Erin Ortiz is a WSET Level 3 wine professional, published wine writer, and 2024 Wine Writers’ Symposium Fellow with more than a decade of experience in the wine and spirits industry. Her work has appeared in JancisRobinson.com, Fractyll, and Uncorked & Cultured.

What kinds of wineries does Celestial Somm feature?

Celestial Somm features independent producers from across cultures and wine regions, with an intentional focus on BIPOC producers and women-owned wineries. Farming, labor, family history, cultural identity, and community also matter when they are part of the producer’s work.

Celestial Somm helps you find a bottle you actually want to drink and spend your money with producers whose work and values you want to support.

How does Celestial Somm choose wines?

Wines are researched and quality-checked before they become part of Celestial Somm’s recommendation pool. Producers cannot pay their way into a recommendation. The cellar is editorially curated around wines worth drinking and producers worth knowing.

How are wines recommended?

Recommendations appear through the Celestial Somm cellar and newsletter, and through Instagram and Gist, where wines are matched with astrology transits, signs, and other concepts. The Camera handles the bottle already in front of you.

How does astrology fit into Celestial Somm?

Astrology gives Celestial Somm another way to talk about taste, mood, timing, and the very human reasons people choose one bottle over another. The wine recommendation still has to hold up in the glass.

Do I need to know anything about astrology or wine?

No. You can start with your sign, a transit, a bottle you are already considering, or a recommendation that sounds good. You do not need wine vocabulary or a working knowledge of astrology.

What is the Camera?

The Camera is a bottle-checking tool on CelestialSomm.com. Take a photo of a wine label and it helps you decide whether the bottle is a good fit for you. You can save wines to My Bottles and come back to them later.

What is My Bottles?

My Bottles keeps track of wines you save through the Camera. As that history grows, Celestial Somm is being built to learn your preferences and make better recommendations over time.

Does Celestial Somm sell wine?

No. Celestial Somm does not sell, ship, or fulfill wine. Recommendations link to sellers where the wine is available.

Can wineries pay to be recommended?

No. Producers cannot buy placement in the cellar or pay for a recommendation.

Wine answers, right now

Take a photo. Tell us the decision.

No tasting-note homework. We read the label and give you the useful part.

Photos are compressed in your browser before being sent for analysis. Celestial Somm does not retain Camera photos with your saved recommendations. If the label is unclear, we will ask for another angle instead of inventing an answer. Privacy
